The Story of PK
If you’re new to the area, you may be wondering where we got the name “Possum Kingdom.” Well, in 1906 a peddler named Ike Sablosky came to Texas to recuperate his health in Mineral Wells. While living there, Ike entered the hide and fur business, sourcing possum hides from cedar choppers and hunters in Northwest Palo Pinto County. He affectionately called his best suppliers “the boys from Possum Kingdom,” a term that grew in popularity until it eventually became the lasting name for the region.
